Changing a design decision during the development phase may require nothing more than a meeting.
Making that same change once production has reached unit 300 may require the entire batch to be reworked.
Technical specifications: what should be done before contacting a manufacturer
There is no need to prepare a flawless technical specification from day one, but there should be a solid foundation in place before engaging with a manufacturing partner.
This foundation should include:
- Technical drawings or, at the very least, a detailed construction design—not simply a render or an inspirational image.
- Clearly defined dimensional tolerances, particularly for components that must fit together or interface with hardware, frames or modular systems.
